Intranet Leadership Forum ... Is It Worth NZ$3,400/Year?

I am absolutely all for communities of practice and one based around Intranet's is indeed close to my heart. But is the Intranet Leadership Forum worth NZ$3,400 per year ... that's for an individual membership. I dunno, with all that shared resource out there all it would take is to go to one well attended conference and you'll make enough connections for a year to keep ya going. Heck, in Wellington you could probably get all the Intranet "leaders" into one pub. Then again, maybe there is more to the Forum than I know ... trouble is it doesn't engage in the on-line world; no blog, wiki, tweet, Flickr ... nothing. So how am I to know?

Creative Commons In The Kitchen

Some have barely been opened, others are the classic “coffee table” types, but then there’s the ones we use at every opportunity. I’m sure you’re just the same. I rely heavily on my British background and am never far from Mrs B ( Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management ) when I need to know how long to roast a chicken. Having been here in New Zealand since 1996, I will also reach for every student’s cooking bible, Edmonds Cookbook . Both these fine tomes pale into nothing when compared to my wife’s recipe “book”. It is handmade, full of very old bits of paper and uses a hope and a prayer as a means of organisation. This collection of recipes (to be called “Liz’s Recipe Book”, even though it’s not strictly a book) is chock full of IP — that is, Intellectual Property , that nebulous stuff that seems to be both t

Guilty Upon Accusation In The UK - Say No

Here in New Zealand we were one of the first countries that the forces that be tried to implement the "3 strikes and you're out" law with regards to alleged copyright infringement via the Internet - in essence if you're accused 3 times by a copyright holder of illegally copying their work you will have your Internet disconnected by your ISP. I have no qualms with copyright holders protecting their goods BUT the issue is that the disconnection would occur immediately on the third accusation and before any evidence is produced and way before you have a chance to defend yourself - therefore you are guilty because someone has accused you. In NZ the law was defeated by a concerted effort (called "#blackout"), a change of government and the support of many high profile supported including Stephen Fry.
