Barcamp season is approaching - 4.5 I know of

[Updated] Added potential "Internet Identity", "User Experience" and Christchurch "Social Networking" Barcamps

With the passing of this year's Webstock the calendar is clearer for a few more Barcamps (definition). There are two three four and half that I am aware being generated at the moment, all in Wellington but I'm sure that Ludwig will be kicking off an Auckland one soon.

Barcamps New Zealand
Previously NZ Barcamps have mostly used the barcamp.org wiki to keep a track of the events.
We now have the barcamp.org.nz site aimed at our own NZ/Aotearoa world of Barcamps.

It's easy to use, anyone can create a barcamp and post info - have at it!

Feedback - love to have some, drop me a line (mike.riversdale@miramarmike.co.nz), leave a comment here or over there

This has had the most planning and is nearing the, "It's all on ladies and gentlemen!" - just the venue to finalise. And it's gonna be over TWO DAYS!

What's it about:
mobile - this is anything from cellphone to pdas to tablets, sms and wap, embedded applications, GPS and navigation. Any application that fits in your pocket.

In the meantime start registering your interest and join the discussion
This could turn into the funkiest and most enjoyable barcamp yet!

- Mini (the ".5")
Following the very successful Agile Barcamp late last year Rebecca has reminded us all that we wanted to do some follow-up mini barcamps.
The idea is to have some mini Bar Camps to follow on from last year's http://barcamp.org/BarCampAgileWellington

Add your name to the list and make it happen!

Internet Identity Barcamp
Not sure if this is happening but if it is then I know when as it's a part of the Identity Conference 2008 ("Managing Identity in New Zealand") being hosted at Te Papa, Wellington on 29th/30th April. If anyone (Mike, Rob?) knows more please let us know.

Details now posted - read more and get involved

The focus of this Barcamp is on User-Centric Identity, the emergent Identity Meta-system and identity at large covering all the topics under it.

Getting identity services working between people, websites, and organizations is a different problem than providing authentication and authorization services within a single organization and this Barcamp is about understanding that difference and learning about the ideas, technologies and people behind the emergent Internet Identity layer – what it means, what to do and who and what is happening in New Zealand.

The aim is simple: bring people in NZ together interested in knowing or doing more in this emergent space. And New Zealand is great for doing just that. Let’s build upon the emerging identity meta-system and tailor it to the NZ context. Let’s leverage the early leadership the State Services Commission (SSC ) has taken in providing the Government Logon Service ( and other planned services) plus the "smallness" of NZ to take a global leadership position in digital identity.

No harm in thinking big.

BarCampChristchurchSocialNetworking
Online social networking is a significant activity in New Zealand, especially among people of high school age. Concerns about safety and privacy abound, as do horror stories and attempts to curb young people's access to it. What is actually happening in online social networking sites? What are the dangers, and what are the opportunities? Could the lack of dialogue about this be more dangerous than online social networking itself? Let's engage creatively in conversations about this.

Down in Christchurch and aiming for Saturday, 21st June with venue tbc.

User Experience Barcamp

A one-day baacamp focussed on UX : including experience strategy and design, information architecture, interaction design, usability testing, accessibility, content modelling, measurement (will refine this statement with time!)

Aiming to coincide this with World Usability Day, which is usually around Sept/Nov - but if demand/help is there we could run it June/July

Just putting word out there for now but at some stage will be seeking volunteers, venue, sponsors etc

Probably Wellington based.
